Gateway and Attached Garden Wall at the Manor House, Lund.

22nd April, 2022.

Manor Farm listed wall and gateway. The wall is magnificent with its curved coping top but the outstanding feature is the gateway. I never realised how significant they were. I had often passed and thought the gateway had been appropriated from another place, however it turns out that it was created here. In the background you may just see the castellated tower of All Saints. The rather striking cherry blossom and the wall seemed to be in sympathy as the bright sun created highlights and shadows. I had to stand in the shade of the Methodist Chapel opposite and became very chilled as a cold easterly breeze blew relentlessly. I spoke to the farmer based at Manor House farm who told me of the gateway, and I remembered the kind offer of painting from the other side of the wall, in their garden. Manor House Farm offer excellent holiday accommodation which provides an excellent base for touring the area, including the coast, also for painting of course. The Wellington Inn is next door, on the village green and has an excellent reputation for food.

Oil on canvas board, 12x10 inch.
