Popped over to Lund in the afternoon and settled near Levitt Lane. Lovely day with a warm wind which I was sheltered from by a hedge behind me. The cow parsley growing on the corner is beginning to look wonderful. Below, on the grass verge are buttercups and daises. In the distance a post office van stops to deliver mail. The wisteria looks beautiful on the cottage to my right. This is a loose sketch done quickly on site, as such it is not too detailed but I like this. It captures the feeling of a quiet back road. To the person who stopped, it was a pleasure talking to you and George enjoyed making friends with your dog, keep practicing your art and check out my videos, especially how to paint an apple. I looked up and saw...at first, I thought three swallows, but no, they were actually swifts, the first I had seen this year. I have swift boxes on my house but they are all occupied by sparrows, so they have never nested. ..yet!
20x16 inch, oil on canvas.
Popped to Levitt Lane, a couple of days later to see about painting the dappled path, however the wind was very strong so it remains for another day. I was shocked and saddened to see that the cow parsley on the corner had been mown down, along with the buttercups and daises. Perhaps the cow parsley could have been a traffic hazard, nevertheless it is sad to see them go, and yet I am pleased to have caught them in time
