Lockdown - easing travel restrictions and a trip to the Yorkshire Wolds.

It was with some trepidation that I set off, in the car, heading vaguely north, eventually I found myself in Burdale, in the Yorkshire Wolds. I walked George and saw the shallow pond at the junction of the Thixendale and Wharrram Le Street roads. The pond is not the easiest to paint to make it look interesting, rather frustratingly. However, walking up the Wharram road and looking back, I thought this will do. The pond reflected the buildings without any obvious sky reflection. Young ducklings scuttled over the pond, splashing and exploring. Swallows dipped, otherwise all was still and quiet. I liked the notion of the tall Wold hillside blocking out the sky, though the mass of greens would be a challenge.

Burdale,
Where a pond hides,
Among dry valleys
Surface smooth.
A base for mallards to glide.
Enthusiastic ducklings scuttle and splash as
Swallows dip.
A beautiful chestnut
With fine features
Struts, ears pricked,
Glancing,
Prancing.

Driving along passing Thixendale I spotted sheep under a hawthorn.
So I stopped and quickly painted this scene.
