Kirby Underdale, East Riding of Yorkshire.

After an early morning walk with George to Newbegin Pits in Beverley, the day was still young. I decided to have another go at painting. These lovely long days mean it is possible to set off in the afternoon and still travel to remoter places and have time to paint. I ended up at Kirby Underdale, where I walked a public footpath, across fields to the intriguingly named Waterloo Cottage, at Uncleby. It is delightfully situated in a dip below Uncleby Hill, the road wraps around the cottage in the fashion of a hairpin bend before climbing again. A stream next to the cottage is crystal clear, shallow with many waterside plants. On a wall of the cottage a picture of an Hussar,  is mounted and looks rather wonderful in full colour. Walking on the road up Uncleby Hill back to the car parked under the shade of a sycamore, I saw this view. The first left, along the road in the picture is Uncleby Road. I moved the car to a conveniently freshly trimmed grass verge and set up. The sun began to beat down, drying the paint too quickly and I had to concentrate on keeping the paint wet.
