I set off with a notion to paint this view , especially in lockdown as the traffic is virtually non existent, thus allowing me to stand IN THE ROAD !!
The wind still gusted, as overhead, red kites danced on hidden strings, ignoring mocking crows, and family groups of swifts flashed by, screaming, in my imagination from pure joy. The 50mph winds of the previous day had passed making me feel secure with one of my pochade boxes. I set up, using the inbuilt spirit level to align the canvas. Then using dilute black oil paint and a long handled small brush, sketched in the outline.
The Pipe and Glass is still closed of course and they have secured the side gate to the beautiful rear garden, A place I long to visit again.
