Above Burythorpe and the Howardian Hills on a mid May afternoon.

19th May 2020.
Oil on canvas 12x10 inch.
£150

I set off early afternoon to visit a nearby village, intending to explore and paint. When I visited the village, famous or, if you are a resident, infamous for starling murmurations, I was not inspired. Except to note from the village information board that the Remington family who invented guns and the famous typewriter were originally from the village. I digress. Continuing on, passing Wetwang I stopped at Burdale and took a couple of short videos, I intend to make a short video of the area which may interest some of my followers.
Eventually I stopped on the road to Birdsall when this view appeared as I passed a woodland known as Aldro Wood. It looks over towards the Howardian Hills and eventually to the North Yorkshire Moors. In a dip, blow the foreground field is the village of Burythorpe, beyond, a little detached is the small church of  All Saints.
As I painted, I was alone except for occasional cyclists working hard to climb the hill and notably Eric. Eric was a 21 years old pony, beautiful colouring, white with dark spots on his flanks, his muzzle a delicate clean shade of pink. The rider paused and we chatted, that is, the rider and I chatted, Eric remained circumspect and unimpressed.
This was an interesting view which I will return to, the sky was particularly interesting and, as Eric's rider pointed out, is often very dramatic.
