The Westwood, Beverley, looking towards town.

Some time ago I painted more watercolours, indeed I was a little obsessed with painting them. All done in-situ or as I would now say, en plein air, they were quick to produce and encouraged one to observe colours more intensely. I like this view, it shows a path leading away from an ancient wood with the two main Beverley Churches, just visible, St. Mary's and the Minster, as well as Black Mill. At this time the long grasses are bleached by the summer sun and appear very pale whilst, in the shallow valley it is darker. The light green slope is a golf fairway and receives much attention from the greenkeepers. There must have been cattle grazing somewhere on the Westwood but it is amazing how they seem to disappear.
