Castle Howard, last twilight opening, 21st December 2019.

I love Christmas and decided to visit Castle Howard again to take in the last twilight opening before Christmas. The trees lining the road to the house were lit up and led to the giant marquee which housed a temporary cafe and shop.

As I sat in the cafe, I watched people enjoying themselves...and thought it would be an interesting moment to try and record...so here we go.

Chinese visitors sport New Balance and walk past
As prams' are rocked in the tented restaurant and shop.
'Jessica...Jessica, do you want a drink'
No response, even as a green bag passes.
"Excuse me"
"yes..."
" Could I have this chair?'
Drinks in paper cups,
Quiche on paper plates,
But wait....
Can I hear jingle bells?
"What do you want Harry"
Examining headgear I notice bobble hats,
Yorkshire flat caps, even,
Heaven forbid..baseball caps,
Yet, all are outnumbered by Santa Claus red and white hats.
Tables fill with family groups
Where Grandparents fuss over grandchildren.
Above,
A black silk starlit sky twinkles.
Then,
I see the back of a woman,
A familiar form and she has a pony tail and
My heart momentarily stops,
As I remember,
Vows washing over me.
