Minningdale Tunnel in mid-winter

Like the Loaningdale trees I aim to visit and paint this view all year. I will return in the spring having already painted a summer view last year. Below are some of the stages in completing this painting. It was all done at the site. I stood on a grass verge in the shade of the trees. It was very cold and local ponds were covered in ice. To keep warm I wore a thermal suit, padded dungarees and jacket making me immune to the cold. Fortunately there was no wind which meant my fingers kept warm.

Available from my ONLINE STORE

Setting up with an plain canvas panel in the pochade box.

Making some simple marks to help plan the painting

Adding some more marks using the side of the brush to add shade values

Beginning to add some colour, here the verges are being  added.

The painting is basically done, the next stage is to detail, stand back and check.
