Crow Wood frames Flat Top House, Bishop Wilton, Yorkshire Wolds.

What a busy day, post coffee meeting found me meandering, firstly to the 'Gill's Farm Road' above Thixendale where I completed a painting then to Bishop Wilton where I saw this view. The house sits in an idyllic location high above Bishop Wilton. The pasture in front of the house is interestingly contoured and hides a small stream, Bishop Wilton Beck. Earlier, I had seen a very interesting Art Studio Gallery in Bishop Wilton, and met Mark Ibson , I would urge you to visit.

This oil painting on 14 x 10 inch canvas board was done in-situ, enplein air, using a pochade box designed for landscape painting. I wanted to experiment a little and paint a landscape in portrait format which required some modification to the pochade box. I am pleased that I now can vary the orientation and am looking forward to doing more portrait layouts. Whilst painting a car stopped and I briefly chatted with a local resident, which is always a pleasure. George lay sleeping in deep grass with a bowl of water by his head.

Hope you like it, available from my online shop ( subject to drying and varnishing ).
