Showers at Castle Howard...

Sketching between the showers in the courtyard of Castle Howard. Interesting to read about England's magnificent win in an enthralling match to make it 2-1 to Australia with two to play. Tall order to wrest the Ashes from Australia's grip but all is on for a thrilling finish. Met PC who WAS THERE ON THE FOURTH DAY...when England won ( at Headingley ). We chatted about art and he showed me a sketch of his, of a corner of the main house. I recalled it was here one day some years ago now that David Hockney chatted with me. At that time he was living not far away and we had a lovely chat about various aspects of art, about sketching and painting en plein air etc.

I sat in the corner on a bench and sketched the scene. Then stopped for rain and went to take George for another walk. Returned and added some more detail with George at my feet.

A4 sketchbook, landscape, double spread.
