Animation here.
Visited today, 2nd April to make a drawing of the Burdale Ash. Earlier, last year, I had painted it in summer when in full leaf. The roads and lanes around Burdale are bordered by many ash trees which is a concern as they are generally dying. I wanted to record this magnificent example before it succumbs. My friend from Burdale popped over for a chat and we talked about sheep, miscanthus
(The habitat provided by the miscanthus crop can provide shelter for small mammals, and birds throughout the season. As a crop that doesn't generally get harvested until post-senescence, the crop can provide shelter over the usual harvesting periods and through winter..... better known colloquially as elephant grass )
and how the meadow would be left to make hay before the sheep are allowed on it. The red post box can be seen on the left and a suggestion of a car is near the stable, I think it was a Kia MPV..And, I must not forget to mention that we met a Prince later, near the ash tree, where we chatted extensively covering many topics...if you are reading this, can I say how we appreciated the time spent with us... This is one of a range of iPad sketches I am making of the Wolds area. Hope you like it.
