A late drive out found me passing Warter and approaching Loaningdale, where I saw this arrangement of trees. I have often thought about painting these particular trees and so, as I had my iPad with me decided to sketch them. I think I will return and paint them from this point on the grass verge. The dead umbrals stand alongside the hedges and the grass is wintered dormant as we approach the shortest day, tomorrow. When looking closely colours can be seen, often highlighted by the weak winter sun seeming out of place in the drabness of a winter landscape. The pinkish, lime green of the smaller trees, on the right hand side contrast sharply with the stark black silhouettes of the main wood.
