The distant North Yorkshire Moors some 25 miles away line the horizon. I am painting at 500 feet above sea level and as the sun drops it becomes chilly, autumn is reasserting it's presence. This road leads to Grimston passing the farm surrounded by sunlit soil shades, being prepped for drilling perhaps, or indeed, it is possibly already been done. The verge is full of turned over umbals laden with dark seed heads. Thin blanched grasses stand out against darker backgrounds, flagging their heads full of biological information, elsewhere, our dear departed Queen lies awaiting her funeral. Overhead a chugging sound, it is a military aircraft of the vertical take off family. I pause, looking at it and think for a moment about Her Majesty.
