An old sketch showing the Rose Hotel but also a suggestion of Hills Engineers. I had forgotten about this as it was done so long ago. It is very interesting to see Issy Lipman's tailor shop just beyond the PYE sign. Issy made me some trousers once which fitted perfectly. Apparently I had enough material for one suit or two pairs of trousers.

A superb artwork of that part of Bev Rd/Stepney, John !And a blast from my sartorial past as well. In my mod days I had all my mohair suits made by "Uncle" Issy (and I mean quite a few!) plus he made me a beautiful charcoal herringbone tweed "crombie"coat. Issy's tailoring was both wonderful crafstmanship and art I reckon. Spent all my brass on clothes , clubbing and the cinema as back then in the 1960s I didn't have a care in the world ! All the best for 2022, Nick
Hello Nick, so pleased to read your comment about the sketch...how things change. Loved reading of your Issy Lipman connection..all the best to you too for a better '22.
Lovely painting! I went to Hymers College during the late 1970s and we would swimming at Beverley Road baths every week. Issy Lipman's window and the message "YOU RING, I CALL" was always a landmark on the long walk back to school.
