19th August 2021.
Looking down the sloping sides of Burdale. The forecast was for a grey, dull day, yet here I found it was sunny, quiet, reflective and peaceful. Hardly any disturbance from people except for the occasional car driving past and a local farmer sitting on a lawnmower cutting a grass verge nearby. There is a pond here, hidden from this view where, on the banks, dozing mallards sit. A lone coot, flashes his white head, barking when it sees me. I had visited earlier and did a sketch which included cattle behind the gate. However, today they were elsewhere, deeper in Fairy Dale. I finished this and walked George back along the Fimber road. We diverted onto the disused rail track where I was delighted to see a purple 'orchid' like flower. On returning home to check, I discovered it to be a clustered bell flower also known as Danesblood.
