A deer crosses.....Painsthorpe Road from near Thixendale.

This is the view made on the first visit but I was not happy with it as I had to stop due to dropping temperatures.

So here is the improved finished painting made on the 25th.

19th August 2021.

I still had time.

After painting a small 12x10 picture at Burdale I thought I still had time to start a larger 30x20 inch painting. Seeing this view I set up my French easel ... and, before starting decided to give George another walk. Sheep looked down on us as we kept to the road, they looked in great condition, having recently been shorn. In the heat a lot of sheep were lying down, some a little awkwardly as the slope meant that they needed to prop themselves with outstretched legs. The road leads to the Robert Fuller Gallery. Robert is a superb, exceptional artist as well as a conservationist, well worth a visit if you are in this area. Walkers passed and we greeted each other. Then, back to the easel. I fed George, now content to sit in the shade of the car next to me as I began to paint. Here, like over at Burdale, traffic was almost non existent. In the stubble a lone pheasant searched for food, strutting through a jungle of stiff stalks ( can you see him ?). The narrow road remained very quiet. I soon began to realize the canvas size was a problem, applying paint to such a large area was taxing, taking me a lot of time, also, the temperature was dropping quickly. Suddenly, a deer, sauntered across the road in front of me. Just a few feet away at the other side of the gate. It was magnificent. I froze, keeping still as it slowly passed, before bounding up the hill to my left. At this point I realized I had to stop as my fingers were going numb. Postscript…I returned on the 25th taking the painting with me for some final adjustments. Met two walkers, one of whom was a fellow artist. Peter and Paul were out carrying their rucksacks , they stopped and had a very interesting talk  about art, Hockney and Blackpool murals. Fortuitously, the mail van passed me heading for Painsthorpe and enabled me to add the red dash of paint.

So, here it is, I am happy with it now.
