20th March 2021
I find myself hereabouts quite often when walking my dog. The experience is sometimes shared and we take delight in seeing Barn Owls flittering along a hedge, hesitating, then disappearing over the other side. Red Kite are never far away and buzzards can also be seen, often being mobbed by two crows. It is a special area, at the present time farmers are busy tilling previously turned soil and drilling seeds. Spring barley will soon be seen flowing over the hills like waves at sea. Occasionally crops are being sprayed, thus, reminding me to stay upwind...and especially also, as many fields are being sprayed with liquid manure. It is good to see the tractors and telehandlers busy in the landscape.
Singing Skylarks
dance on invisible strings,
Barely visible above greening fields,
Where Lepus Europaeus hide in plain sight.
Suddenly they drop out of the sky,
Crashing towards the ground,
Before veering off and settling down.
Spring is in the air.
The long straight road
A magnet for cyclists,
Provides a lone runner, his track.
King Alfred's gold shines among the shadowed hedge,
Elsewhere brassy celandines flower, while
Clouds of pale primroses carpet the verges, and even
Anemones are starting to appear, so,
It must be
Spring.
