This is an old picture, an old painting made in approximately 2015. I love the view as it captures the three main churches of the Minster, St. Mary’s and St. Nicholas. I remember walking over the racecourse to the pond with my French easel. The weather was bitterly cold, the wind cutting through my warm clothing. As I painted my fingers struggled to cope, when I finished I could hardly dismantle the French easel. So this painting always reminds me of that time. In another way it is an interesting painting inasmuch as it records the incongruous block of a white building, the old Beverley Arms hotel accommodation block. This has now gone after extensive renovations were carried out.
It is now for sale, further details on my online shop here.
Oil on stretched canvas.
