I am above the Golden Valley, north of Warter. Flocks of small birds, silhouetted on this bright day, perhaps goldfinches, flurry and disappear along the hedgerows as I pass. Activity nearby relating to the Warter Estate caused me to pause as access into a field near me was needed for people to cross with their eager dogs. People carrying red flags, spaniels and labradors were gathered ready to work the land, after a pause they disappeared into the dense cover crop. The weather improved as I waited and the rain was replaced by sun. This lit up the fields south of Warter. I recognised Great Dug Dale and how intermittent sun highlighted the flanks of the valley. The people and dogs disappeared yet a walkie-talkie could still be heard. I waited a little longer and decided to paint. I soon realized a particular frustration, I could not undo the cap of my titanium white. I tried all sorts of methods to no avail. I had to pack up early and head for home where I hurriedly finished the painting after access to pliers solved the problem. The spire of Warter church helps to locate the spot and I might return again…. With pliers.
