A hare rustles nearby before saying a rapid goodbye.

First of June, walkies found me here. I have always liked this view of Holmedale Farm up on the hill. The verges are covered in cow parsley, buttercups and red campion. More plants are emerging, especially knapweed and of course the maroon stemmed Hogweeds....don't touch these as they will irritate your skin quite severely causing painful blisters. The campion is pleasingly bright in places and in the hawthorn hedges occasional guelder rose flower clusters can be seen. As I walked George along to the distant junction I saw a man in an old yellow jacket walking through a crop of wheat. He was removing something which looked like barley. As I looked over the field I could see whisps of barley growing through the wheat crop. He walked back and forth, through the wheat waist high wheat, bending down so that only his back could be seen as he removed strands of barley. I pondered if it was black grass though am sure it was wheat. You can just see him on the left. Suddenly a rustling commotion to my left made me glance down to the tall verge grasses, a hare had popped through the hedge and, surprised to see me did a rapid, noisy, about turn.

The picture is from one of my A4 landscape sketchbooks and will benefit from enlarging to see the detail.
