The finished painting...close up panning video.
I decided to have a go at painting large and took two 3x2 foot canvases. Using 'Rosemary'brushes I started to paint this scene, Great Dugdale is hidden, though just discernible to those who know the area. The nearby coloured wood is Moss Hill Wood. It was a challenge but worth the effort. All done at the site and I will live with it for a while to decide if it needs refining. Huge flocks of goldfinches took off from the hedges, highlighted by the sun they were a spectacular sight. On the way here, flocks of nervous fieldfares took flight again and again, being brightly defined in the clear, winter air. Also, a buzzard, kestrels aplenty and red kite could be seen. The picture is six feet wide and two feet tall. A group of Hockney inspired walkers passed and we chatted briefly. The tiny group of trees on the right hand horizon are, in fact, ‘Bigger trees at Warter' made famous by David Hockney...Here is an iPad sketch I did recently Another aspect of this painting which people might be interested in is that I only used these colours, basically blue yellow and red with a tube of white.
