Had an enjoyable visit to Hornsea Art Society to give a demonstration of painting with water based oils. Was delighted to hear of their success in the forth coming Beverley Open which was an improvement on last year. On a solemn note, we all stood in silence for a minute at the start in respect at the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 death. We were all very sad about the news and our thoughts were with the family. After some brief notes to the floor by the organising chair, I began explaining how I enlarged the small card to fit the canvas, using string to mark focal points. Then I explained how to look at the scene and recognise essential elements before starting to paint. I was pleased to talk with members beforehand, during and after the demonstration. As I painted the progress was being filmed and projected onto a large screen which made it easier for people to see. Ultimately, time runs out and precludes more detailing but I want to say that the colours used were limited to Ultrmarine blue, Lemon Yellow , Cadmium Red, and Titanium White, illustrating the fact that you can create a range of colours by judicial mixing. I'd just like to congratulate the eighteen successful artists again...and urge those there to try painting outside, to try and forget any inhibitions, just enjoy being transported by art to another place.
Happy Painting.
Latest news, I will be part of the Beverley Open Studios event this year and am putting together a mini gallery, hope you can make it. Details here.
