...two labs wait in a Polaris...Glebe farm, near Lockington.

November 18th 2020

I am continuing to take you with me in these strange times, hoping that seeing the views and reading the comments helps.

I realised that the sun was trying to break through and quickly headed for the Bracken Road. After walking George along quiet lanes, passing trimmed hawthorn hedges, I set up to paint. A junction signpost pointed to Lockington ( all roads seem to lead to Lockington around here) and in the distance I could easily see Glebe Farm. The road to Bracken twisted and turned,  and on my left a deeply furrowed, freshly turned field glistened in the sun. Distant sounds of shooting, sounding like…hmmmmnn I thought, sounded like what….then I decided the shots actually sounded like planks of wood being dropped, maybe not obvious but try it yourself. I stood painting looking at the distant, dull grey trees, the sun occasionally illuminating them with flashes of colour.

A couple on horseback walked along the road from Lund Moor before turning off towards Lockington, we smiled and waved at each other. The picture was coming on when I noticed rain spots on the canvas…arrghh. I stopped and  and headed home.

The next day’s forecast was much better so I decided to go back and finish the painting. As I approached Lockington Wood I passed a small group of vehicles, including two Polaris UTV, a typical estate vehicle. One with two labradors in the back the other sporting the spoils of a shoot. Participants, or maybe beaters were in the process of moving on....that is except one, who was stuck in the soft verge. He eventually freed himself, but the verge will never be the same.

I digress, having waited for them to unblock the road I drove on to the spot where I had painted the day before. I walked George before painting and noticed a much more interesting sky, which was a bonus and quickly finished the painting before moving on the Westbelt Plantation beyond Lund Moor Farm.

18x14 oil on canvas..POA...email me here for details.
