19th November 2020.
My intention was to paint a H U G E canvas today.
The weather was going to be good for painting, light wind and dry, but plans change. I had just received some canvas panels and decided to use a pochade box instead. This was probably wise as the weather, though bright, was very cold. Also, I decided on a different view to paint. I saw the stream and the reflected telegraph pole...( telegraph..why do we still call them that?!!) and set up the tripod. Here was the problem. It meant that I had to stand on the road as space was at a premium. I enjoyed meeting people, chatting at a safe distance about art and painting and generally passing the time. Local single decker buses passed, carefully, as well as many cars, vans and tractors. I had walked George earlier before reinforcements arrived and took over, which allowed me to continue painting safe in the knowledge that he was being looked after, and also, that he may not need a long evening walk later. The focus of this painting is the rural feel of the stream passing below me combined with the trees to my right, the charming old buildings and the 'feel' that I was in a quiet, peaceful place surrounded by kind people, one of whom even offered us a warm drink. So thank you Lockington.
