Black Mill, Beverley Westwood.

It is interesting to find these old watercolour paintings. They were half imperial in size allowing me to paint big vistas, big skies and get more of a sense of the landscape. This view is very old, as it shows one of the goal posts from when regular football matches were played at Black Mill. It is just a small detail yet it is a significant detail which helps the narrative of the scene. In the foreground a couple walk through the long drying grasses of summer. I wonder if the grasshoppers were 'singing'. The distant Yorkshire Wolds can just be made out, a special area which I have since painted extensively.

Hope you like it.
