En plein air painting of one of my favourite areas, the low Wolds north of South Dalton. Here is a view across the rolling hills with clouds threatening rain as local farmers hurriedly try to harvest the fields of oats, wheat and barley. As I painted I met Andrew who farmed nearby, he was making several round trips getting in the crop before any rain came. He expected to be working late, if conditions allowed. As I painted I heard a gentle rustling sound but saw nothing. I continued to paint, first I laid out the view, then added the interesting sky, before finishing with the golden fields.
Then a sharp loud sound reflected the anxious egress of a nervous hare. The hare, had been watching and waiting for me to move and as I remained standing still, it decided enough was enough and bolted away across some bare soil and into the tall safety of the field behind me. I glimpsed it as it ran across the bare soil, it was large, beautifully coloured and its long, dark tipped ears, were raised high as it darted off.
As I got ready to leave Andrew appeared and gave me some produce to take away, gratefully received, and which, I enjoyed preparing for a late dinner.
This will be exhibited in the "Wolds Exhibition" at my Garden Gallery, sometime soon.
