Plein air oil on board, 12 x 10 inch. |
I am planning, late as usual, my calendar for 2016 and I remembered this picture. ( Not sure I have posted this before ). I did this on the spot ( en plein air ) using a home made pochade box. It was an early work in my plein air period. I wanted to record the Minster before the view was lost, from this point, which was from the corner of Chantry Lane and Priory Road. I particularly wanted to capture the vivid autumn coloursof the trees and shrubs, wild lavendar adding to the colour, before they were to be cleared as the Flemingate development progressed. I have had to try and capture the Minster from this view which necessitated the exclusion of its fine detail. Something I find difficult, however I am happy the essence of the view as it is. Whilst doing this an ex-student of mine passed on his way to the local newsagent ( now closed ) and we had a lovely chat about this and that. I may include this view on the calendar,
( STOP PRESS - IT IS NOW FEATURED ON THE CALENDAR ) what do you think? The calendar this year will feature some Beverley views and also, some of my walled garden series from this year.
Provisional orders being taken, if you are considering a calendar, please
let me know, they will be £10 incl P+P.
PS
Flemingate and Minster yard were close earlier today to facilitate the filming of "Victoria"

This is just lovely, John - and will definitely be a wonderful addition to your calendar. Just finished a painting I'm putting in a raffle to benefit a local community gallery - I'll email a photo to you. Be well.
Hi Susan, so good to hear from you. I will look forward to seeing the picture. I also recently donated a picture for charity which is really satisfying. And yes, I like the Minster picture, though it is not as detailed as some I have done. It looks better when you see it as the brush marks can be clearly seen. Anyway keep in touch, lovely to be in contact, regards, John
