Reighton, looking towards Bempton Cliffs, Yorkshire.

22nd October, 2020

Reighton Sands.

Journeyed out to Reighton Sands via a busy Fraisthorpe today and, as predicted the tide was ebbing. What a wonderful beach this is. Gently sloping, almost flat sands allowing kite flyers, parents with young children, dog walkers and other to safely exercise with plenty of space. Of course, this is important at the moment as the Pandemic is still very much with us. Further north just beyond Whitby at Staithes, Covid  has split the village from level 1 to level 2. The seemingly mad boundary being the small stream running through the village. Of course, you have to have a boundary somewhere and rivers, streams, estuaries seem logical by-enlarge. So, today, being on the beach was particularly valued. Perhaps it may not be possible soon. I looked south, towards the cliffs at Bempton ( RSPB video here). They are huge, cliffs up to 400 feet tall, home to puffins, razorbill, kittiwakes and, of course, the famous gannets. The weather today was bright and breezy which meant I had to hold the pochade box to keep it from blowing over. I will have to take a shopping bag and fill it with sand the next time, though the extra weight may make the tripod sink into the sand anyway...hmmmnn...I love plein air problems. After leaving the beach, we headed for Scarborough,  where we found surfers dramatically trimming and tacking the crashing waves.

This picture will be part of my 'Coast' exhibition which I hope to exhibit sometime soon, if Covid precautions allow, or when we all feel safer I guess.
