Castle Howard, Sept 7th 2014.

Castle Howard, Yorkshire - plein air oil on canvas 12x10"

Print available A3 size ( see here ) £30 including p+p worldwide.

A forecast for warm sunny weather decided us to visit Farndale, on the North Yorkshire Moors. A favourite area with many happy memories. We walked some of the old railway track around upper Rosedale, visiting the cross on Blakey Ridge, before taking the steep road down to Farndale. Target reached we then travelled home via Castle Howard where we stopped and painted this scene very quickly. Speed limiting the detail of the distant house, I nevertheless like the result. Lots of birds on the water and occasionally skeins of geese flew overhead. Some of the summer's last swallows flitted by after feeding over the lake. Their dangerous return trip requiring energy stores are full. Met some people from Beverley who were also passing on their way home, a small world.

It was a lovely day and always good to talk to people. Enjoyed the Civic Society talk as well.
