The road to Goodmanham from Hugill Dale, East Yorkshire.

12x10 inch oil on canvas.
It was getting cool and the sun had moved round when I decided to quickly paint this, the second of two paintings done from the same spot. The descending road leads to a junction with the road to Warren Dale continuing across to the right. Turning right and staying on the road takes you to Middleton on the Wolds. Turning left leads to Goodmanham and Holme on the Moor, with South Dalton a little further away. The feature here is the sun. As it was beginning to fall, and as the temperature dropped it shone brightly. It lit up the edges of the clouds dramatically. As I painted, yellowhammers were dancing on top of the hedges. The would look and then disappear before inquisitively emerging again. The crops, a cereal of some kind,  are now becoming well established and are a good foot tall. Elsewhere the bright yellow rapeseed oil plants are beginning to bloom bright golden yellow.
