Phlomis russeliana.

Rendered plein air sketch.
Another visit to Wassand Hall.
This was an interesting challenge. Sitting on a bench looking over to a huge cluster of Phlomis, I thought it would make a challenging exercise. This picture does not convey the size of the plant which must have been three and a half feet tall. Behind it was a dark green hedge, could have been yew but need to check. Not sure if it will make a card as some of the other sketches could, but I like it all the same. While I was busy concentrating on the sketch, it was pointed out to me that a toad was walking across the path in front of us. It was lovely to see it casually walking towards sanctuary in the thick vegetation.
